Roy Clark was an award-winning American Singer, Musician, Television Show Host, Guitarist, Actor and Performer who was born in Meherrin, Virginia and died of pneumonia complications in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was widely known as the Host of the televised country variety show ‘Hee Haw’ for over two decades, from 1969 to 1997. He also guest-hosted on ‘The Tonight Show’ for Johnny Carson.
He was known for his hit songs as a pop vocalist, which include “Yesterday, When I Was Young” and “Thank God and Greyhound.” He was also known for winning the National Banjo Championship twice before the age of 15 (fifteen). He appeared on notable films and series such as ‘The Odd Couple’ in episode “The Roy Clark Show” as Willie Boggs, where he played “Malagueña”.
